Think of it like this. Player A buys a PLEX and sells it in Jita for 350 mil ISK. He uses that ISK to buy a hurricane off the market, the modules for it, and ammo. All of this stuff was made by players who had to get the resources to make it (buy/mine the minerals and other stuff), and it matches the hurricanes that other players who don't spend RL money have.
Player B buys several PLEX and converts it to Aurum, then spends it in the NeX store to buy the new Gold Hurricane that has much better bonuses than a regular hurricane. This new Gold Hurricane isn't made by players, it just pops into existence from thin air when player B hits the purchase button. Player B also purchases 10,000 of the new Gold Medium Projectile ammo. It has the damage of EMP and Fusion combined, the tracking bonus of Trit Sabot, and the range of Carbonized Lead. He also gets the new Gold 720MM Arty guns, they have the alpha and range of normal 720's but also have the tracking of autocannons.
Player A and player B meet in losec on a gate one day in their ships. Player B proceeds to completely shred player A, even though Player A has better skills and has played longer and knows more of the ins & outs of PvP. This is called Pay To Win (P2W). Basically player B bought a big advantage over player A rather than spending the time getting his skills up to the same level and taking the time to learn the nuances of PvP through trial and error.
THIS is what all the rage is about. The possibility that because I have a large disposable income I can buy a big PvP advantage instead of training up my skills and learning the hard way how to PvP. There is precedent for this, when Lord of the Rings Online went Free 2 Play they put stuff in their cash shop that gave players permanent stat boosts, as well as other things that would make the player perform better in game over someone who hadn't spent that money.
Pay 2 Win in a game like EVE would kill the game, it would cause an economic crisis as new/better ships/modules/ammo were instantly created by the NeX store instead of made through researched blueprints that used materials, and it would give people who haven't put the time in to get better in the game an advantage over those who have. This would cause a large portion of the population to quit EVE, and EVE cannot handle that like other games might be able to, we're all to tightly intertwined in the economy and community. =============================== Wit has truth in it; wisecracking is simply calisthenics with words.
